Wood Products Care Instructions

Family brand Wood4home products are handmade in our small workshop in Lithuania, European Union. Each piece has a one-off shape and a unique natural pattern. All products of solid wood or plywood are naturally beautiful, they may contain natural irregularities and discolorations.

Wood is an organic material, and furnishings, souvenirs, jewelry, toys and other products made of wood will always be unique. Texture directions and knots are part of wood’s nature and charm, and no two pieces are alike. Wood changes constantly and it affects the volume, color, and the wood structure. The wood will continue to change throughout the product’s life span. It’s important to handle the wood products correctly.

To help ensure that your wood product maintains a beautiful appearance and long lifetime, you should follow the Wood Products Care Instructions bellow, regarding care and maintenance.

Wood may expand and shrink with differences in temperature and humidity. Keep all wooden products at least one meter away from a direct source of heat (heaters, radiators, fireplaces etc.).

Direct exposure of wooden products to sunlight may lead to loss of the original colour and to get deformations.

Remove spilled liquids from wooden surfaces as soon as possible.

Cleaning is carried out with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth from cotton or another material. We do not recommend microfiber cloths. Alternatively, the cleaning is carried out with a clean, damp cloth with water, then drying it with a clean lint-free cloth.

During day-to-day use, the oil layer gets wiped off or absorbed by the wood. In order to maintain the original color, oil should be reapplied every two to three months. Simply use a cloth and rub oil by following the natural grain.

Fingering and dust wood products regularly they done unclean. To keep your items looking its best, you need to do a periodic deep cleaning. Here’s how to clean wood products without damaging its oiled finish.

Never use harsh chemical cleaners as they will dull the surface and remove the protective oil layer, making it vulnerable to dirt. Cleaning is carried out with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth from cotton or another material. We do not recommend microfiber cloths.

Colour change is a natural part of the wooden products. If you want to reduce the changing process of the wood, the process can be slowed down by protecting the wood against bright light and changes in air humidity.

Natural oiled surfaces must be treated with a neutral oil. Natural sunflower oil perfectly protects the wood. We recommend you always treat both sides of a wooden surface, in order to reduce curvature. Oiled surfaces can be treated when needed, but in order to maintain the original colour, oil should be reapplied every two to three months. For daily use, the surface should be treated more often. This will alleviate dirt and help to prevent penetration of liquid.

  • Sand rough spots on a dry surface with 220 grit paper if it necessary.
  • Clean the surface with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth from cotton or another material.
  • Simply use a cloth and rub oil by following the natural grain.

All wood products are dried down to 6 – 8 % wood humidity, which equals an air humidity of approximately 40 % at 20 °C. Solid wood and wooden items in general, should be placed in rooms where the air humidity is between 40-60 %.

The wood works more or less – depending on humidity in its surroundings. It will absorb or release moisture, depending on humidity. Excessive exposure to humidity can destroy the item.

The wood expands in humid periods and contracts in dry periods. Repeated fluctuations can cause cracks and crack formations. In general, the wood should be able to breathe so it is able to adapt to the humidity in the room. Never cover solid wood items with airtight materials, such as plastic or oilcloth for longer periods. If the wood cannot breathe it will crack.
